Catalan project wins eLearning Awards
A project called “Daring Reporters” from IES Ronda in Lleida, Catalonia has won the Young Digital Poland Award for best use of ICT in the eLearning Awards.
The award was presented at a glittering ceremony at the EMINENT conference in Paris on 8 December 2005.
Piotr Mróz, a board member at Young Digital Poland, presented proud teachers Jordi Jordan and Anna Aznar with a crystal trophy and a cheque for €5 000 for their school.
Professor Derrick de Kerckhove, Director of the McLuhan programme at the University of Toronto and President of the jury, said:
“I love Daring Reporters for its wonderful design values, but also because of its community focus on the student participation and teacher collaboration. It also has the strong pedagogical value of engaging with present issues and reality, thematic exploration, film criticism and so much more.”
It was a successful evening for Spanish regions, as Colegio Erain from the Basque country claimed second prize with their project on digital video. Third prize was won by Newman School in the UK with an innovative collaborative writing project entitled “Personal Demons”.
The eLearning Awards is an annual event organised by European Schoolnet and supported by private partners, with the aim of rewarding the best examples of use of ICT by schools in Europe. Almost 800 entries from over 30 countries were received in 2005, the fifth year the event has been held.
In total, €24 500 in cash prizes and over €10 000 in software and equipment are awarded to schools in 2005. The winners are as follows:
