The fourth edition of the eLearning Awards was launched in April 2004.

Together with Young Digital Poland, the Principal Partner for the Awards in 2004, European Schoolnet invites teachers and schools to submit their ICT projects to the eLearning Awards.

The main eLearning Awards category will reward the best three examples of the innovative use of ICT in education. There will be a first prize, second prize and third prize in this main category.

In addition to the main category, special award categories are:

- ICT in school collaboration
- best learning object
- mathematics and science
- use of ICT by a municipal or regional institution
- school collaboration
- culture
- global reach through the use of ICT
- languages.

Clara Navas, eLearning Awards Project coordinator, said "The eLearning Awards offers a unique opportunity for teachers and schools to show what they can do when it comes to using ICT in education. We look forward to receiving excellent and innovative projects from all over Europe".

Over the past three years of the eLearning Awards, thousands of entries have been submitted by teachers and schools in over 40 countries. 

Award ceremonies have been held in Lisbon, Stockholm and Geneva. A total of € 137 000 in prize money has been awarded to winning projects.
