RULES

1. Eligibility

Schools and teacher training institutions in Europe are eligible for the eLearning Awards. Eligible are EU/EEA countries, Switzerland, EU Candidate Countries and Israel (see list below*). Entries must be submitted via the eLearning Awards website by the closing date

An entry may cover a part of a school, a collection of resources, a project or an activity. It should have been substantially created after 1st January 2006. Entries created by individual teachers are eligible, but should be associated with a school or other eligible institution. Prize money can only be transferred to the account of the school or institution, which is also responsible for its disbursement. An invitation to the award ceremony is sent to the person who submits a winning entry. It is however possible to nominate a different representative. Cooperative projects between institutions are eligible, but they should be represented by one institution that is part of the project. If a project is submitted by more than one partner, these submissions will be considered as one.

Commercial or public educational content and service providers are not eligible, neither are institutions that received eLearning Awards in previous years. However, projects that have won other awards or grants (e.g. Comenius), or have benefited from sponsorship, are eligible. Such support should be declared on the entry form.

As evaluation is carried out online, entries must be visible online. CD-ROMs and printed material are not eligible.

The language of the project can be in any one of the official languages of the eligible countries. The description requested in the registration form has to be a short informative summary in English, German, French, Italian or Spanish.

All entries must be online from 1st November 2007 to 31st December 2008.

2. Legal and ethical issues

Entries should comply with all legal requirements in the country of submission and follow European agreements on copyright. They should conform with current advice from Insafe on privacy, e-safety and protection of children online (see www.saferinternet.org). Short quotations may be used if the source is clearly indicated. Pictures, film, sound and other multimedia may be used only if the owner has explicitly permitted use, or if taken from free sources.

Entries submitted to the eLearning Awards remain the property of the school/organisation or teacher. European Schoolnet reserves the right to make the material freely available for educational purposes between 1st November 2007 and 31st December 2008.

Entries may not contain any statement, fact, information or quotation that may harm or diminish any person or group of people. Entries may not encourage persecution of people on the grounds of race, opinion, nationality, sex, profession or other persuasion. Nor may entries encourage crime or the breaking of laws.

European Schoolnet may decide to disqualify an entry if it breaks any of the above rules and reserves the right to disqualify projects, remove them from the project gallery or withdraw an awarded prize without giving reasons. European Schoolnet also reserves the right to adapt the rules and awards. Notification of changes will be made on the eLearning Awards website.

3. Judging

Entries are assessed online by evaluators who are experts in the use of ICT in education. Following initial screening for eligibility, entries are assigned to evaluators in different countries in Europe.

Evaluators score projects in different criteria to identify a shortlist of 100 potential winners and identify candidates for special awards. The eLearning Awards Partners may be involved in the selection of special award winners for the prizes they sponsor. Evaluators consider the following criteria:

  • Content of the entry
  • Pedagogical innovation (promotion of active learning, evidence of collaboration)
  • Technical performance and innovation
  • Transferability to other countries and schools

A judging panel of respected authorities in the field of ICT in education then evaluates the short-listed entries and select the winners. The panel works under a chair who is independent of European Schoolnet and partners.

The judges’ decision is final. No discussion will be entered into.
